Mistakes on a ration card are common: a name spelt differently from Aadhaar, a wrong age, the wrong head of family, or an address from before you moved. Fixing them (राशन कार्ड में सुधार) matters because your ration is given after Aadhaar authentication on an ePoS machine, and your card details are used in verification drives.

We are an independent information guide, not a government website. We cannot correct any card and we never ask for your card number or Aadhaar. Below we explain how corrections are usually requested in Uttar Pradesh, using what could be confirmed, and we say clearly where the official process is not confirmed.

Common mistakes people want to fix

  • Name spelling that does not match Aadhaar.
  • Age or date of birth entered wrongly.
  • Relation to head of family shown wrongly.
  • Head of family needs to change, for example after the death of the current head.
  • Address is old after moving within UP.
  • Mobile number is old, so OTPs for status checks do not reach you.
  • Card type appears wrong (Antyodaya or Patra Grihasthi). This is an eligibility question rather than a typing error. See our eligibility guide.

Adding or removing a whole member is a different request. It is covered in our guide to adding or removing a name.

Step 1: Check what the record actually says

Before you go anywhere, look at the record on the official portal so you know exactly what is wrong. Reported steps on fcs.up.gov.in:

  1. Open fcs.up.gov.in and look for "Ration Card Eligibility List" or "Search in Ration Card Eligibility List" (राशन कार्ड पात्रता सूची).
  2. Choose search by ration card number, or by district, town or block, and fair price shop.
  3. Find your card and open the details.
  4. Write down every mistake, or take a screenshot.

These labels come from third-party guides. The live site was not checked by us, so the menu may look different. If you cannot find it, look for a similar option on the home page, or use the NFSA UP citizen page listed on nfsa.gov.in. Our list guide has more detail.

Step 2: Request the correction

Third-party guides say changes to an existing UP ration card are made by filling a modification form at a Jan Seva Kendra (CSC) and submitting it with documents. Some guides also say forms can be taken from the "Download Forms" section of the portal and submitted at a CSC or Tehsil office. The official correction process is not confirmed, so use these steps as a guide:

  1. Go to a Jan Seva Kendra or your supply office (पूर्ति कार्यालय).
  2. Say exactly which detail is wrong and what it should be.
  3. Fill the form they give you. Copy spellings from Aadhaar letter by letter.
  4. Attach proof of the correct detail (see the table below).
  5. Get a receipt or reference ID and keep it.
  6. Check the status after some days. See our status guide.

Which proof usually fits which correction

No official UP list of documents for corrections was found. Third-party guides list Aadhaar, photos, bank passbook, residence proof, income certificate, electricity bill, gas receipt and mobile number for applications in general. The table matches common proofs to common corrections. Ask the Jan Seva Kendra to confirm before you go.

What is wrongProof that usually helps
Name spellingAadhaar of that member
AgeAadhaar or another age proof the office accepts
Address within UPResidence proof, for example an electricity bill
Head of familyAadhaar of the new head; death certificate if the old head died
Mobile numberThe new mobile number and Aadhaar of the head

Why correct details matter for e-KYC

Under the TPDS (Control) Amendment Order, 2025 (as reported in July 2025), e-KYC of all eligible households is mandatory every five years. In UP, e-KYC is done by giving a thumbprint on the ePoS machine at a ration shop. If a member's details are wrong or a member is not properly linked, the e-KYC may not go through for that member. Districts have set their own deadlines. For example, a Jhansi report said units without KYC would get no ration in September 2025, would be suspended for 3 months and then deleted. So fix errors early. Our e-KYC guide explains the process.

Moved to another state or district?

If you have moved for work but your family still lives in UP, you may not need to change the address at all. Under One Nation One Ration Card, you can lift your share of grain at any fair price shop in India after Aadhaar authentication, and your family back home can lift the balance on the same card. UP beneficiaries can also do e-KYC at any fair price shop in the country. For a permanent move, ask the supply office how to shift or surrender the card.

Warnings

  • Never share an OTP with anyone who calls offering to correct your card. OTPs on the official portal go to your registered mobile for a reason.
  • Do not upload Aadhaar or card details to unknown websites or apps. Use only the official portals listed on this page.
  • If an agent promises a quick fix for money, refuse and ask the supply office or call 14445.

Frequently asked questions

How can I correct my name in a UP ration card?

Third-party guides say you fill a modification form at a Jan Seva Kendra and attach proof, usually Aadhaar for a name spelling. The official process is not confirmed, so ask at the Jan Seva Kendra or supply office. Copy the spelling from Aadhaar exactly and keep the reference ID to track the request.

Can I do ration card correction online in UP?

A self-service online correction for citizens on fcs.up.gov.in or nfsa.up.gov.in is not confirmed. The reported route is a Jan Seva Kendra, where the operator submits the request. If you find an online option, use only the official portal, and never give OTPs to anyone who offers to do it for you.

How do I change the head of family on a UP ration card?

Ask at the Jan Seva Kendra or supply office for the modification form and say you need to change the head of family. Carry the new head's Aadhaar, and a death certificate if the earlier head has died. The exact UP document list is not confirmed, so check locally first.

How do I update the mobile number on my ration card?

A confirmed self-service option for UP was not found. Ask at a Jan Seva Kendra or the supply office. A working registered mobile matters, because the reported status check and details search on fcs.up.gov.in send an OTP to the registered mobile number.

My address changed. Do I need a new ration card?

Not always. If you moved within UP, ask the supply office how to update the address on the card. If you work in another state, One Nation One Ration Card lets you lift grain at any fair price shop in India with Aadhaar authentication, so you may not need to change anything.

How do I check if my correction is done?

Third-party guides say fcs.up.gov.in has a "Ration Card Application Status" option where you type the reference ID or ration ID and captcha, then an OTP. You can also search your card in the eligibility list to see if the detail changed.
