UP NFSA Guide is an independent information website. We are not the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Uttar Pradesh, not NIC and not any government office. We do not issue ration cards, we do not check applications and we never ask for your ration card number, Aadhaar or OTP. Everything official happens on the government portals and at your ration shop, Jan Seva Kendra or supply office. Our job is to explain those steps in simple words, with the official links, and to be honest when something could not be confirmed.
Uttar Pradesh runs one of the largest ration systems in India. According to a Lok Sabha answer dated 7 February 2024, UP had 15,08,78,433 beneficiaries on 3,60,78,167 ration cards under NFSA and PMGKAY. If your family is one of them, this guide links to everything you usually need: the ration card list (राशन कार्ड सूची), download, status, e-KYC, eligibility and how to apply.
What the UP ration card is
The UP ration card is a family card issued by the state Food and Civil Supplies Department (खाद्य एवं रसद विभाग) under the National Food Security Act, 2013. It lets the family lift subsidised grain, which is now free, from its fair price shop (FPS, सरकारी राशन की दुकान). Since One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) began in August 2019, a UP cardholder can also lift grain at any fair price shop in India after Aadhaar thumbprint authentication on the ePoS machine.
Nationally, NFSA covers "upto 75% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population", as stated on the official NFSA portal. For UP, the coverage basis reported by Drishti IAS is 64.46% of the rural population and 78.54% of the urban population. As reported in May 2025, UP scrapped district-wise quota allocation, and coverage is being raised in Bundelkhand and some eastern districts.
Card types: Antyodaya and Patra Grihasthi
UP issues two NFSA card types. Here is what each one gets, based on the national NFSA rules on nfsa.gov.in:
| Card | Hindi name | Monthly grain | Cards in UP (7 Feb 2024) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) | अंत्योदय | 35 kg per card | 40,90,189 cards, 1,32,57,091 persons |
| Priority Household (PHH) | पात्र गृहस्थी | 5 kg per person (unit) | 3,19,87,978 cards, 13,76,21,342 persons |
As reported by Amar Ujala for the May 2025 distribution in Sultanpur, AAY cards got 14 kg wheat and 21 kg rice, and PHH cards got 2 kg wheat and 3 kg rice per unit. That split is district news and may change by month or district, so check the notice at your ration shop. Our ration entitlement page has a simple calculator that multiplies these per-person amounts for your family size.
Who qualifies for which card is explained on the UP ration card eligibility page.
Free ration under PMGKAY
Grain under NFSA is free. According to the Prime Minister's Office, the Union Cabinet decided on 29 November 2023 to provide "free food grains to about 81.35 crore beneficiaries" "for a period of five years with effect from 1st January, 2024". Five years from that date runs to 31 December 2028. So a dealer should not charge you for NFSA wheat or rice. If someone asks for money for your entitled grain, note the details and complain to your district supply office or through the channels listed on fcs.up.gov.in.
Guides on this site: pick your task
Each guide below explains one task, with steps, caveats and official links:
- UP ration card list: find your name district-wise, by town (urban) or block (rural) and dealer.
- UP ration card download: print portal details, DigiLocker and the Mera Ration app.
- UP ration card status: card details and new application status.
- UP ration card e-KYC: thumbprint at the ration shop and the 5-year rule.
- Apply for a new UP ration card: the Jan Seva Kendra route.

The quickest way to check your card
Most people simply want to know if their card is active and their name is on it. Third-party guides describe this route on fcs.up.gov.in. Menu labels on government sites change, so if your screen looks different, look for a link with "Eligibility List" or "पात्रता सूची" in it.
- Open the official department portal fcs.up.gov.in in your phone browser.
- Look for "Ration Card Eligibility List" (राशन कार्ड पात्रता सूची).
- Choose your district, then your town (urban areas) or block (rural areas).
- Choose your fair price shop dealer and tap the number of cards shown next to the dealer's name.
- Find your card number or the head of family's name in the list.
If your name is missing, do not pay an agent. Talk to your ration dealer first, then your supply office. The full steps are on the list page.
e-KYC: why it matters now
According to news reports on the Targeted Public Distribution System (Control) Amendment Order, 2025, e-KYC of all eligible households is now required every five years, and cards with no grain lifted for six months can be temporarily disabled. In UP, e-KYC is done by giving your thumbprint on the ePoS machine at a ration shop. As reported by PTI in April 2025, 77.37% of UP cardholders had completed it by March 2025, and districts such as Jhansi warned that units without KYC would be suspended. The e-KYC guide linked above explains the steps before you go.
Stay safe: OTP, Aadhaar and fake websites
Ration card fraud often starts with a phone call or a fake website. Please remember:
- Never share an OTP with any caller, even if they say they are from the food department, a bank or this website. Official portals send OTPs only to complete a step you started yourself.
- Never share your Aadhaar number or photos of your card with unknown people on WhatsApp or social media.
- e-KYC is done at the ration shop on the ePoS machine. Do not pay agents who promise to "save" your card or add names for a fee.
- Check the web address. The UP department portal is fcs.up.gov.in. Sites ending in .com, including this one, are not government sites.
- This site never collects ration card numbers, Aadhaar or OTP. If anyone claiming to be us asks for them, it is a scam.
Where to get official help
The ONORC toll-free number 14445 appears in an official PIB backgrounder, which says it is "functional in most" states. A UP food department toll-free number (1800-1800-150) and the state PDS short code 1967 are commonly listed online, but we could not confirm them on an official page, so check them on fcs.up.gov.in or at your supply office. The national NFSA portal also keeps a state toll-free list. For problems with your shop or card, your district supply office (जिला पूर्ति कार्यालय) is usually the right place.
Frequently asked questions
Is upnfsa.com the official UP ration card website?
No. This is an independent information guide, not a government website. The UP Food and Civil Supplies Department portal is fcs.up.gov.in, and the national NFSA portal is nfsa.gov.in. We only explain the steps and link to those portals. We cannot check, issue, correct or cancel any ration card, and we never ask for your card number, Aadhaar or OTP.
How much free ration do I get on a UP ration card?
Under NFSA, an Antyodaya (AAY) card gets 35 kg of grain per card per month and a Patra Grihasthi (PHH) card gets 5 kg per person per month. Under PMGKAY this grain is free for five years from 1 January 2024. The wheat and rice split can vary by month and district, so check the notice at your ration shop.
How do I check if my name is in the UP ration card list?
On fcs.up.gov.in, third-party guides say to open the Ration Card Eligibility List, choose district, then town or block, then your dealer, and open the card list. Labels can change, so look for a similar link if the screen looks different. Our list page explains each step and what to do if your name is missing.
Can I use my UP ration card in another state?
Yes. Under One Nation One Ration Card, an NFSA cardholder can lift grain at any fair price shop in India after Aadhaar thumbprint authentication on the ePoS machine. Family members back home can lift the balance on the same card. As reported by PTI, UP beneficiaries can also do e-KYC at ration shops in other states.
Is e-KYC compulsory for UP ration cards?
According to news reports on the TPDS (Control) Amendment Order, 2025, e-KYC of all eligible households is required every five years. In UP it is done by thumbprint on the ePoS machine at a ration shop. Some districts, such as Jhansi in 2025, said units without KYC would not get ration and could be suspended.
What is the UP ration card helpline number?
The ONORC toll-free number 14445 is listed in an official PIB document. A UP toll-free number 1800-1800-150 and the short code 1967 are commonly listed online, but we could not confirm them on an official page. Please confirm the current number on fcs.up.gov.in or at your district supply office before calling.
