UP Ration Card e-KYC: How to Complete It in 2026
Ration card e-KYC (ई-केवाईसी) in Uttar Pradesh is done with your thumbprint on the ePoS machine at a ration shop. Here is who needs it, how to do it, what the 2025 rules say, and how to avoid e-KYC scams.
- How
- Thumbprint on the ePoS machine at a fair price shop
- Where
- Any government ration shop, even outside UP (as reported)
- How often
- Every 5 years (TPDS Amendment Order 2025, as reported)
- Children
- e-KYC due within 1 year of turning 5
- UP progress
- 77.37% done by March 2025 (PTI)
- Mera eKYC app in UP
- Not confirmed. Ask your dealer
e-KYC links each member of your ration card to their Aadhaar through a live check, usually a fingerprint. In Uttar Pradesh, news reports describe it simply: every member goes to a ration shop and gives a thumbprint on the ePoS (POS) machine. If a member skips it, their unit (यूनिट) can be suspended, and in some districts deleted after a few months.
This is an independent guide, not a government website. We cannot do e-KYC for you and we never ask for Aadhaar or OTP. All facts below come from official documents or are clearly marked as news reports. There is no statewide official deadline that we could confirm, so district dates are given as examples only.
Who needs e-KYC
- Every member on an AAY or PHH card, not just the head of family.
- Children over 5 years. As reported by Amar Ujala (Jhansi) and Patrika (Moradabad), KYC is required for all units above 5 years. Under the 2025 central Order, as reported, a child's e-KYC is due within one year of turning 5; for children under 5, Aadhaar is collected where available.
- Members living elsewhere, such as workers in other cities or states. They can do it at a ration shop where they live.
- Everyone again every five years, under the TPDS (Control) Amendment Order, 2025, according to news reports.
Step by step: e-KYC at the ration shop
- Find out which members still need e-KYC. Ask your ration dealer (कोटेदार); the ePoS machine usually shows pending members.
- Take each member's Aadhaar card (or number) and your ration card details to the shop. The member must be present in person.
- The dealer selects your card and the member on the ePoS machine.
- The member places a finger on the scanner for Aadhaar authentication. If the fingerprint fails, try another finger, clean and dry the hand, and try again.
- Ask the dealer to confirm that e-KYC was successful for that member. Ask for a slip if the machine prints one.
- Repeat for every member above 5 years.
- After a few days, check that all members are active, for example through the UP ration card list or the dealer's machine.
Processes at shops can vary. If your dealer says something different, ask your supply office what the current rule is.
Doing e-KYC outside UP or away from home
You do not have to travel back to your village. A DFPD letter dated 25 June 2024 says NIC has enabled e-KYC at any fair price shop regardless of domicile; UP was one of ten states asked to build the needed system link with NIC. As reported by PTI in April 2025, 10.02 lakh UP beneficiaries had done e-KYC in other states. Patrika (Moradabad, December 2025) also reported that members living elsewhere can do it at any government ration shop under One Nation One Ration Card.
Business Today reported in October 2026 that an August 2026 parliamentary reply allowed e-KYC at a ration shop "of their choice anywhere in India" and named the Mera eKYC app as the remote option.
Mera eKYC app: does it work in UP?
Mera eKYC is an official app by the National Informatics Centre on Google Play. It uses Aadhaar face authentication along with the AadhaarFaceRD app. A district notice (Pauri) describes the flow: install both apps, select state, verify location, enter Aadhaar, enter the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile, then do the face scan.
Whether Uttar Pradesh is enabled in Mera eKYC is not confirmed in our sources. Before trying it, ask your dealer or supply office. If UP is not listed in the app's state list, use the ration shop. Install only the app published by National Informatics Centre. The OTP in this app is for the app screen only.
Deadlines and district examples
We found no statewide official e-KYC deadline for UP. Districts have set their own dates. These are past examples from news reports, not current deadlines:
| District | What was reported | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Jhansi | No ration in September 2025 for units without KYC; units suspended for 3 months, then deleted if KYC is still not done | Amar Ujala, 27 Aug 2025 |
| Moradabad | Deadline 25 December 2025; district had 5.45 lakh cards and 22,38,076 units | Patrika, 23 Dec 2025 |
| Uttar Pradesh (state) | 77.37% of cardholders had completed e-KYC by March 2025 | PTI via The Week, 2 Apr 2025 |
Nationally, according to trak.in (September 2026), about 1.58 crore beneficiaries were to be temporarily disabled from 1 October 2026 after six months without lifting grain, with three months for e-KYC and verification. A UP figure is not confirmed. Ask your dealer about the current date in your district.
If e-KYC fails or a unit was suspended
- Fingerprint not matching: try other fingers and retry another day. Ask the supply office about alternatives; Aadhaar biometric update is done at Aadhaar centres, not at ration shops.
- Unit suspended: complete e-KYC as soon as possible. In Jhansi, units were deleted only after three months of suspension, as reported.
- Unit deleted: visit your district supply office with Aadhaar and the ration card. Re-adding a member is a separate request; see add or remove a name.
- Not sure of your status: see UP ration card status.
Frequently asked questions
How can I do ration card e-KYC in UP?
Go to a government ration shop with each member and their Aadhaar. The dealer selects your card on the ePoS machine and each member gives a thumbprint for Aadhaar authentication. Ask the dealer to confirm success for every member. Children above 5 years also need it, as reported by district news.
Can I do UP ration card e-KYC online at home?
The Mera eKYC app from National Informatics Centre allows face-based e-KYC in states where it is enabled. Whether Uttar Pradesh is enabled is not confirmed in our sources. Ask your ration dealer or supply office first. If UP is not available in the app, do e-KYC by thumbprint at any ration shop.
What is the last date for ration card e-KYC in UP?
We found no statewide official deadline. Districts have set their own dates, for example Moradabad set 25 December 2025 and Jhansi stopped ration from September 2025 for units without KYC. Under the 2025 central Order, as reported, e-KYC is now repeated every five years. Ask your dealer about your district's current date.
Can I do UP ration card e-KYC in another state?
Yes. A DFPD letter of June 2024 says e-KYC is enabled at any fair price shop regardless of domicile, and PTI reported that 10.02 lakh UP beneficiaries had done e-KYC in other states by April 2025. Visit a government ration shop where you live with your Aadhaar.
What happens if e-KYC is not done?
Units without e-KYC can stop getting ration. In Jhansi, as reported by Amar Ujala in August 2025, such units were to be suspended for three months and then deleted if KYC was still pending. Complete e-KYC quickly, and contact your supply office if a member was already removed.
Is there any fee for ration card e-KYC?
Our sources do not mention any official fee for e-KYC at the ration shop. Do not pay more than what is officially allowed, and report a dealer who demands money to your supply office. Never pay an agent or caller who promises to do e-KYC for you using your OTP.
How do I check my ration card e-KYC status in UP?
The simplest way is to ask your ration dealer, as the ePoS machine usually shows which members are pending. You can also check whether all members appear on your card in the fcs.up.gov.in eligibility list. A separate official e-KYC status page for UP was not confirmed in our sources.
